2004 Lena Girls State Trip

This past weekend was something new for us. We decided to go to HS Girls State Basketball this year. It made it extra special that an area team just up the road was on the verge making their first trip since 1991. So we held off on buying tickets to the state just to see.

And what do you know? They won in the sectional finals over Pittsville and earned their first trip to state since I was 8 or 9 years old(gosh I am getting old..lol).

The first game on Friday was electric. People from Lena and so many surrounding communities were there to show support for these young ladies.

Lena returns to the big stage will last another day after they held off Clear Lake 53-48 to win a Division 5 semifinal game at the Resch Center.

Eva Brooks had a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Madi Thomson added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to send Lena into Saturday’s championship game. It could have been so much worse but the team had issues at the FT line. We won and on cloud 9.

Lena fell short of bringing home a second state title, losing to Albany/Monticello 57-54 in overtime in a thrilling WIAA Division 5 state championship game.Brooks had a sensational game, finishing with 21 points and a Division 5 tournament record 19 rebounds and Thomson added 16 points and seven rebounds for Lena, which finishes the season with a 28-3 record.

It sure was a fun ride that this team took us on this season. The Wildcats will be losing 2 seniors so that it is a possibility of a trip next season to State.

It was a fun 2 days watching these girls gut it out and give it their all and leave it ALL on the court in both of these games. So proud to say that I am now a full fledged supporter of Womens’ Basketball.

We will be going back again next year there is nothing like Girls Basketball.

First the Snow now the Cold

In the month of December it was in the 40s  and it barely snow at all in the last month of year. It was unfortunate that the kids was not able to enjoy a white Christmas and new year.

Good ol Mother Nature decided that this week that she has some catching up to do. We received about 10-12" this past week. The littles had fun outside playing with fresh snow. The goofballs on Saturday, it was their quest(I guess) to stay in there PJs all day long. The little things in life I guess.

Now it is coldness and wild chills decided to come on in. It is the time for deceiving views while you look outside. It feels like it is -20 to -30 outside. It is the season to layer up every time you go outside even to walk to the car or bring the dog out.

During this time it the sounds of come out during this time when the temps plummet well below zero. The crunching of the snow and ice is natures music.

Sadly, during these temps the kids are not allowed to go outside and play for their recess. After, the school day they have PLENTY of energy when they get home. They will be racing around like a squirrel that just drank Red Bull.πŸ˜‚

It  should be another week or so of the subzero temps. Then who knows what the weather will bring.

Remember that winter is the time to reset/restart to start out a new season.

Crazy Weekend

It was quite the weekend this weekend. We figured that it was going to be a crazy one, but that is to be expected anymore especially during the winter. It was the weekend of the Coleman Youth Wrestling Tourney.

Avia and Silas did great. We are so proud of how then. All we asked was for them to fight and wrestle from whistle to whistle. Avia had a goal coming into this season to get a pin and that she did in her 2nd match. Silas won 2(one was a pin) of his 3 matches.
After a long day of wrestling, Silas had a birthday party so we lazed around until it was time to pick him up.

In the evening, they played outside for a good hour or so in the fresh snow that we got Friday Night. It was the first snowfall of the season. Sure is a strange year not having a real snowfall til the 1st week in January.

Then today, the littles had basketball practice this morning. Jenn and I went out for breakfast to a new place for us. Then in the late morning I took down the indoor Christmas decorations.

Ava was happy that there was a softball open gym tonight. So her and Avia did that tonight. It was nice for some of the girls to knock off some of the rust off and start getting back into the game shape.

I appreciate you all for stopping by :)

Fools' Spring is Over

It is finally Friday…it just seemed like a LONG week. I am not that sure why that is😦 We survived it.

On Sunday, the girls had a softball Camp. It seems like they learned quite a bit from instructors that have played in college or are currently coaching. I think that it was money well spent for the girls to learn for a great group of ladies.

It seems that Fools' Spring is over though. Yesterday we had a pretty big snowstorm. Before yesterday we had very little snow, but now we have piles of snow once again. We received a good foot or more in the last couple of days. With the weather and road conditions, I did not go to work yesterday. With the time that I go to work the roads are usually not plowed very well if at all.

All the kids even played outside in the snow yesterday. Because sometimes it is a chore to get them outside. They would rather veg in the house instead of enjoying the weather that God gives us, especially after a snowstorm. A snowstorm offers a blank slate and restart.

Super Bowl Thoughts and More

My parents decided to retire a couple of weeks ago from their jobs together. So we had a retirement dinner for them last Sunday. It was nice to visit my other siblings considering that I do not see them all that often. As hard as they worked for myself and siblings, My parents sure earned a nice retirement and NO MORE ALARM clock for them. Hope they enjoy their retired life.

The Super Bowl was pretty decent. It had no shortage of storylines: “The Kelce Bros facing off vs each other”, “Andy Reid playing against his old team”, “Mahomes and Chiefs going for their 2 SB in 4 years'.

The Eagles and the Chiefs were a battle back and forth for much of the game. If it was not for Jalen Hurts the Eagles would not have been in this game whatsoever. Hurts threw for 304 1TD and ran for 70 yds and 3 more TDs. Even though the Eagles lost, Hurts should have been the MVP. There was no player more valuable than he was that night.

Mahomes, the Chiefs QB, had 182 yards through the air and 3 TD passes.

The game came down to a questionable defensive holding call on the Eagles to seal the deal for the Chiefs. The refs were letting them play all night but to call it right there….Come on, man. The Chiefs nailed a 27 yd FG with 11 seconds left. It was a good game but marred with ref interference for the Chiefs…AGAIN. It was just entertainment anymore…more like WWE. The NFL knows who they want to win the marquee games….just sayin.

We had our customary Super Bowl spread for the night for Jenn and I and minions. We have a SB party every year. It was good and we had fun at our little party as well. You have to have little weenies wrapped bacon. We also had ribs, pickles and ham rolls.

Another season came and went.

First Snow

We got our first snow of the year last night/this morning. I usually call it warning snow. It is called that because you get the snow it does not stay. It means that you have to get ready for winter or you will be behind eight ball when it is finally here to stay for Wisconsin.

The kids had a blast this morning playing in the snow. The younger 2 were outside enjoying the fresh snowfall at 630ish this morning. There is nothing like seeing kids outside and just enjoying the loveliness and mystic adventures that snow brings to youth and adult.

So many busy people complain about the snow and the unpredictable circumstances that it can bring. It can be nice to see what everyday brings. Enjoy each day as much as you can :) Take your time and SLOW DOWN. I have had issues in the past with winter, but I will try to take a different approach this winter season.
